Life is FAIR

That's right! At least it has been around our house this week. It's FAIR time. The big boys have been preparing for a long time. They each raised heifers and entered projects in the homemaking show. This year was a good year for us at the fair.

Weston made it to the blue ribbon auction with a peach pie. This was a last minute decision to enter this pie. Boy are we glad we did !! Aunt Haley Bug made the auction with this pie "back in her day." The recipe has still got it! Many wonderful people came together and rewarded Weston for his hard work with $4,000!!!!! Trey and I are so proud and so very thankful to our friends and family for supporting Weston at the auction!

A very excited boy!

Weston and the buyers!

It was defineatly a great year for Weston also in the cattle barn. His heifers were selected as Grand Champion Spring Commercial Heifers! He won his very first buckle and is so proud. I did have to explain to him several times what was happening to him on Saturday afternoon. I don't think he really realized what all those fast numbers really meant. He sold his heifers for $1,300 each to a local rancher and cattle auction barn owner. Such a nice man!

Mac didn't do so bad himself. His Rainbow Cake (thank you McMama) was top cake mix cake in his age division and was in the running for auction. The senior cake got the win, but we were excited for her since she is one of our friends. In the cattle barn this year, Mac's heifer got 4th place Spring Commercial Heifers. Mac keeps adding ribbons and banners to his collection. The same nice rancher/auction barn owner bought his heifers for $1,600 each. Mac was very grateful for this amount. The drought was hard on the ranching business the last couple of years. People are now looking for good cattle to replace the ones they sold. Mac knows a thing or two about cattle.

such a handsome boy--er, young man!

Mac and Weston also competed in the greased pig scramble on Friday night at the rodeo. Weston did his best, but came up short. Mac, however, caught one very quickly. He won $50 to help purchase a project for next year.

Weston getting ready to chase some pigs.

Walker was not to be outdone. He showed a goat in the pee wee goat show. The goat's name was Mr. Jingles. A very nice family let us borrow Jingles for the show. Walker did a great job. He was most certainly the "comic relief" for the judge. The judge even came back to him after it was over and talked to Walker for a while.

Trophy boy and his borrowed goat.

In fact, Walker was very independent this year. He went missing for a while because he was mad that he couldn't go to the carnival. Mac found him at my car. Boy, was that boy in trouble. Then I found him yesterday talking to some of the sheriff deputies asking them if they chased bad guys! Walker's main focus was to ride the ferris wheel at the carnival. Trey and Weston rode it with him. Trey asked Walker if he liked it and he said, "I'm livin' the dream, Dad!" I asked him later where he heard that line and his response was "I don't know, but I've always wanted to say it." So glad that we got him on that ferris wheel. Think of how disappointed he would have been. We could have scarred him for life!

Trey was a happy volunteer once again. He loves this kind of stuff. He was up early in the morning and out late at night. We all enjoyed the events and being around our friends and family. I worked in the homemaking building for the first time in 5 years. We are always a little stressed in the days leading up to the fair, and then a little disappointed when it is over. I love this small town and the people in it! The fair and rodeo are just one small reason why!

I definitely want to thank Nana for coming up and staying up late helping to keep the oven going, working with the boys on their homemaking project and just being available. Love you, Mom!

Thanks Bug and Laly for finding the prize winning pie recipe!

Until next fair!
